Is Alexa Ranking Accurate? Yes and Not at all!

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:21 pm by Administrator

After a thorough observation, I concluded about the non-accuracy of Alexa Ranking 2 years ago. At that time, there was no online article about it. If your site is not doing well on Alexa, this might be the reason. I trust this article, because people named “Radu” are the ones fixing the problems in Yahoo or Google:).
As you can tell, I commented on it but kept investigating and this is what I found out further.
- The Alexa Ranking can not give the real ranking of sites for this: it is only counting your visitors who already have an Alexa toolbar installed
- Like I commented without proof on Radu’s blog, it turns out that any set of stats can be modified by unscrupulous webmasters. For example, my traffic can be serving for another site; And I am sure it is the case for my LaraVictore.com and StarParis.com Someone else in the SM Scene has used an invisible code on them and is making a higher ranking; All I know is that this bandit webmaster is located in the USA and I am hiring an expert to track him/her
By the way, my sites are doing great, I got between 3000 to 5000 visitors a day and an average of 15000 page views since a month, but my site ranking keeps sucking dramatically. My traffic thief does not even bother to cover up his track anymore. If I am lucky, I can see a abnormal coded stuff after entering my site. Further, I got more than 100 sites linking to mine but Alexa is giving only 10; Consequently, I have to add all my friends links as listed in Google manually and sorry I have no time for this baby’s game:

- It turns out that money matters is also included as Alexa works with Amazon but I will let you consult your own brain for that.
Further, my own investigation was based on the little flags that I have on every page, the yahoo stats of my sites and another invisible stats counter. The main result is that the hidden stats counter and the flags are identical, but the yahoo seems not to receive the hits on my site, a proof that the traffic on my sites are diverted.

What to conclude about installing the Alexa Bar? Does it seems to be recording some information on the PC and make it slow to run, according to online users’ complaints? All the browsers already record some information for commercial purposes, and the speed of my PC has only changed the 3 first days of Alexa Toolbar installation? Because the Internet has no secret, this is another eye opening blog written on June 2009 about Alexa ranking
How does the Alexa ranking work?

Not many people know this, but if you would like to see how busy a web site is, you can go to http://www.alexa.com and see what it’s traffic ranking is. If you look at the information about a web site you can get an idea of the traffic the web site receives.

But how does it work? How does Alexa know what traffic another web site receives?

The short answer is; It does not work!………

If you have been wasting your time on someone because of her/his site ranking, you are probably dealing with organized cyber criminals or air.

Enjoy it if your site is by mistake among the lucky ones who are at the top without your doing (I also had this time, hey not everybody is a tricky webmaster), but never trust someone who says I am good because my Alexa Site Ranking is high. This is for sure an indication that they have a webmaster who knows how to steal traffic from Real Mistress and Dominatrix.

Have a good day or night.

Update March 2010
I got better results on The Alexa Ranking of all my sites by following 2 or 3 suggestions in my own article written in Star Paris Domina Guide about boosting Alexa Ranking
One of my sites went from Rank 27 000 000 to Rank 170 000 in 2 months. This site MyDominaguide.com has a better eanking without any effort.

But in the meantime, I have read 10 other blogs about the flaws in Alexa Ranking, and I must say that I am very surprised that
- no one can tell the real reason why The Alexa Ranking does not work properly.
This is the main reason causing the inefficiency of The Alexa Ranking-hopefully the Amazon Boss will read this and that webmasters from all over the world will get the Amazon Alexa Boss to modify their system- IF YOUR SITE IS NOT BASED IN THE USA, IT IS CERTAIN THAT THE ALEXA RANKING OF YOUR SITE WILL SUFFER. The Alexa Ranking gives more value to traffic coming from the USA, than any other country in the World. An example, my site LARAVICTORE.COM is 24000 in France (5 times stronger than Max Fish, one of oldest Domina Guide) where I am now and 104000 in The World, according to the Alexa Ranking. Consequently, if my sites was in the Top 100 in France, it will still be showing as a poor perfectioning in The World ranking and that is unfair. Alexa has enough money to tell the truth in his stats, and the truth is that a site SHOULD BE RANKED according to its highest location and that what they call The World is actually only the USA. I have measured and compared my traffic regularly with an American webmaster (Thank you, Honey) and it turns out that even if he is getting less visitors, his site are actually getting a better ranking. Normally, if my site is now 1000 000 in Alexa Word, it would be 300 000 if I was located in The USA! But the blow below the belt, the betrayal comes from the fact that the majority of my visitors are American and not French and this might not totally be The Alexa Ranking’s fault (traffic diversion or stats manipulation, because American visitors are the biggest buyers and get stuff only where other Americans do) !!! How long shall The Alexa Ranking get away with this? Until someone powerful enough sues him propbably or until many webmasters in the world start sending complaints. At the end of the day, buyers (who are not informed) might trust a site with a better ranking.
I frankly do not care, someone smart enough will probably come up with a more accurate ranking. Strange that Google, for example, gauge ads value through Alexa. For multi-millionnaires, the Internet has secrets.
